Our team had a great time with friends at yesterday’s Taking Root Luncheon benefiting Peckerwood Garden!
It was a great program with keynote speaker, Peter Hatch. Hatch is a celebrated author who has written four books on the garden of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, where he served as Director of Gardens & Grounds for 35 years!
We recommend his book, “A Rich Spot of Earth”, to anyone interested in the history of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello or the 1,000-foot terraced vegetable garden he loved and learned so much from. It was extensively and painstakingly restored under Hatch’s brilliant direction, and Jefferson’s unique vegetable garden now boasts the same medley of plants he enthusiastically cultivated in the early nineteenth century!
“No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no culture comparable to that of the garden…But though an old man, I am but a young gardener.” – Thomas Jefferson
