Gorgeous peek into this private courtyard we constructed in historic Shadow Lawn subdivision! Shadow Lawn is one of several “private enclave” neighborhoods developed in Houston in the 1920s and was designated as an historic district in 2008. (Other enclave subdivisions developed around this time were Courtlandt Place, Longfellow Lane, West Eleventh Place and Shadyside.) This colonial revival style home, originally designed by architect Cameron D. Fairchild, was one of many residences that Fairchild designed for the Trueheart family of Galveston. Building landscapes for homes with such historic prominence makes a project all the more rewarding because in addition to improving a part of our client’s home, we are also helping to preserve a piece of our city’s history.

We all love our air conditioner, but that doesn’t mean we want to stare at it all the time. Thankfully, creative landscape design provides simple solutions to hide the unsightly, but essential parts of our gardens. 😊 This custom iron trellis will soon become a solid, evergreen wall. You could also achieve this with a hedge, but the trellis was a better choice for this tight space. Living screens are also a great way to obscure pool equipment and trash bins. We love thoughtful details like these because they make such a huge difference in a landscape!
