Little Acorn Park at The Parish School

Another wonderful outdoor classroom donated for a great cause: The Little Acorn Park at The Parish School!

The Parish School specializes provides education to children who have communication delays and learning differences, but have above average learning potential. These differences may include problems with speech/language, learning to read, dyslexia, focusing attention, visual motor areas, social skills and auditory processing. The Little Acorn Park is a beautiful space where these students can learn and play for years to come and Moss Landscaping is so proud to be able to give in such a big way to this very worthy cause! 🌿💚🌳

Our team had a blast at the CYCLE Houston Bicycle Ball! Gary and Louise hosted along with fellow CYCLE Board Members, Leo Hamel and Maria Quinones. There was dinner, dancing and lots of cheering while raising funds for a very worthy cause!

CYCLE is a children’s charity that rewards students with new bicycles for achieving better academic performance. Since CYCLE Houston began, they’ve awarded more than 150,000 bicycles to hard-working students in the Greater Houston area and are so excited that the success of this year’s event will fund many more! 🚲

Taking Root Luncheon benefiting the Peckerwood Garden Foundation

Our team had a great time with friends at yesterday’s Taking Root Luncheon benefiting Peckerwood Garden!

It was a great program with keynote speaker, Peter Hatch. Hatch is a celebrated author who has written four books on the garden of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, where he served as Director of Gardens & Grounds for 35 years!

We recommend his book, “A Rich Spot of Earth”, to anyone interested in the history of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello or the 1,000-foot terraced vegetable garden he loved and learned so much from. It was extensively and painstakingly restored under Hatch’s brilliant direction, and Jefferson’s unique vegetable garden now boasts the same medley of plants he enthusiastically cultivated in the early nineteenth century!

“No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no culture comparable to that of the garden…But though an old man, I am but a young gardener.” – Thomas Jefferson

Welcome to the team, Kimberly Watts!

A native Houstonian, Kimberly worked for many years for plant nurseries and brings a wealth of knowledge to our organization. She also has more than 10 years of experience in landscape management and has supervised the maintenance from properties ranging from residential HOAs to large commercial contracts. At Moss, Kimberly oversees our clients’ homes in Oak Estates, Bellaire, the Museum District and select Memorial properties. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending her free time with her family and is an active volunteer for the Sam Houston National Forest Trail where she assists with trail maintenance. Kimberly loves the outdoors and taking care of her clients, (which fortunately go hand-in-hand in our industry!) Helping bring garden dreams to life is what she loves most about her work and we are so fortunate to add another talented supervisor to our team. Welcome, Kimberly!

Congratulations, Wilfredo Serrano!

We are proud to announce that our maintenance supervisor, Wilfredo Serrano, has completed the 30-Hour OSHA Safety Training Course and is now Moss Landscaping’s Safety Coordinator!

It’s easy to look at pretty pictures of gardens and forget the physical stress, equipment hazards and potential for injury our team members face each day. Safety has always come first at Moss, and we are grateful that Will has taken the initiative to receive this advanced certification. With his leadership, we will continue to reinforce and improve upon our safety standards company-wide! , and thank you for your commitment to our team!

Moss Landscaping wins Best in Show!

Our team had a great time at the TNLA Expo last week! We were so proud to receive two Gold Awards as well as the Best in Show award for 2018!

Mindi Marshall led the project that won the Residential Landscape Maintenance Award for her team’s exceptional work caring for a complex project in the Woodlands. Monica Eatherton and Blair Chesnut led the project which won the Residential Landscape Installation Award as well as the Best in Show Award for her rooftop garden terrace she completed in River Oaks!

It takes a village to make a garden beautiful and these team members also deserve credit for their assistance with these two amazing projects:  Joey Canahuati, Tacho Betancourt, Oscar Campos, Carlos Hernandez and Ishelle Scoppa.

Congratulations, team! And thank you to the judges of the Texas Nursery & Landscape Association for this incredible compliment! It’s a proud day for Moss Landscaping!

Rooftop Herb Garden Progress

This has to be one of our most rewarding projects from the past year: the rooftop herb garden at Annunciation Orthodox School! We are so excited to see the garden growing in beautifully just in time for school to start next week!

This garden serves as an outdoor classroom where students learn how to grow, harvest and cook their own food. This experience helps children learn cooking techniques, nutrition awareness and skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Our construction crews and maintenance department have truly outdone themselves with this project – well done, team!

(PS – That’s our marketing director, Ashley, in the back! She took this photo with our drone, Petunia!)
